We would like to introduce the leadership of our Special Works team; Kevin Day, Grahame Roberts, Grenville Smith and Nick Newbould. The team have been working on unique and bespoke projects within Knight Harwood for over five years, delivering schemes with our trademark attention to detail and always in a collaborative manner.

Each year, the team go from strength to strength. Delivering fast-paced projects from £20k to £3M, with some very exciting projects planned for 2021.

Let’s find out some more about the leadership of the Special Works team!

Kevin Day

Kevin has worked for Knight Harwood and the Special Works team for three years, where he was promoted from managing surveyor to director in July 2020. Kevin is responsible for all aspects of the team, covering both the commercial and delivery aspects of each project, reporting directly to the Board.

In the three years Kevin has worked with us, he has overseen the delivery of some fantastic projects, however one recent scheme stands out; Princess Square, Bracknell. Princess Square has been the Special Works team’s biggest project to date and was a real coup for the team to secure, working within an occupied shopping centre and delivering to a well-considered and sequenced programme – this project epitomised what our team can deliver.

Kevin thrives on Knight Harwood’s mix of projects and team culture and feels extremely fortunate to be involved in the wide variety of projects the team deliver every year.

During his spare time, Kevin indulges his passion for motorbikes, enjoying nothing better than tinkering with them and a blast in the country.

Grahame Roberts

Grahame has worked for Knight Harwood for six years, when he established the Special Works division, and is responsible for developing new business and maintaining existing relationships. He takes great pride in delivering fantastic projects and providing each project to the highest standards of quality.

Over the years, Grahame has been involved with several amazing schemes, however The Bull Public House is one of which he is particularly proud. The 14th-Century building was in a derelict state in a prime location in Bracknell town centre. During the project, the team restored the listed oak timber frame, rebuilt the historic brickwork, and extended the building, doubling the capacity to create a centrepiece for the new Bracknell redevelopment. A real highlight for Grahame was the opportunity to meet the Queen at the opening ceremony held in the pub.

In his spare time, Grahame is a keen golfer, always seeking that elusive perfect game (the journey continues!). He enjoys spending time with his family at the weekend, taking his grandchildren on adventures.

Grenville Smith

Grenville has worked for Knight Harwood and the Special Works team for five years. In his role as managing surveyor, Grenville is responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of the Special Works projects. He manages a team of quantity surveyors with a range of experience, whilst helping to develop their skills and provide mentorship to them.

One of the highlights of Grenville’s career to date at Knight Harwood has been the recent delivery of 27 Farm Street. Grenville feels incredibly proud of the team’s commitment to deliver a Cat B fit out to a high specification, maintaining excellent relationships with neighbouring residents and completing on time. The client’s delight and praise of the whole team on completion was a moment of pride for all involved.

In his time off, Grenville enjoys travelling with his family, introducing his children to different cultures and experiences.

Nick Newbould

Nick has worked for Knight Harwood for five years, joining the Special Works team as contracts manager. He is responsible for the overall delivery of the team’s projects, working closely with the senior leadership team.

Nick thrives working across the wide variety of projects within the Special Works portfolio and particularly the diversity of sectors in which the team deliver. One day the team can be installing a state-of-the-art hot tub to a penthouse overlooking Green Park, or piling a basement in Covent Garden and the next delivering prime retail space within an occupied shopping centre in Bracknell.

During his time off, Nick enjoys spending time with his family and dogs and making the most of the beautiful countryside by getting away for as many weekends as possible in their touring caravan.

We hope you have enjoyed meeting the Special Works team. We are looking forward to introducing another of our key teams soon!
