Meet Joe Hicks, a construction manager with our Special Works team.
Tell us about your career so far?
I’m a carpenter and joiner by trade but have spent the last 20 years in construction management. I spent almost 15 years with my previous employer, working predominately in the education and healthcare sector, as well as various fit out and residential contracts. I have been with the Knight Harwood Special Works team for 5 years now!
You have recently finished a residential project for a private client in Holland Park, please tell us about the job and how you found it?
Our residential project in Holland park for a private client included a complete strip out of the property with a new layout and outside garden space. I found the job really rewarding with a great set of subcontractors and a hands on client.
What is your most memorable project?
I have been lucky enough to worked on a couple of really interesting schemes with Knight Harwood, but our residential project in Surrey for a repeat client was, in my opinion, the most rewarding, working closely with the client on a daily basis and delivering a great project we can be proud of.
What advice would you give someone just starting their career?
My advice to any construction manager starting out in the industry is this: the best way to learn is to be on site asking questions and learn from your mistakes. Have a good focus on the programme of your project to deliver on time, and on budget.
