Overview

Founded in 1769, the Royal Academy of Arts is the country’s oldest art school and their Grade II* listed home is located on Piccadilly. The project has seen the transformation of the RAA Schools space to provide a fully accessible flexible and high-quality work environment for its staff and students.

Through careful restoration and enhancement of the historic building fabric, new facilities and contemporary spaces have been provided. The works involved extensive structural alterations and the replacement of existing glazing and roof finishes to the Shaw and Smirke Studios. A new studio suite and workshops have been introduced along with a new library, commercial kitchen, canteen facilities and acoustically constructed recording and performance spaces.
