We would like to introduce Tom Knowles who joined Knight Harwood in 2019 as part of our graduate scheme after graduating with a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. Having been keen to pursue a career in the fast-paced and varied construction industry, Tom is currently working as an assistant quantity surveyor on our BAFTA project. To date, Tom has enjoyed working with many skilled individuals, both in the office and on site, from multiple trades and disciplines.

When looking for a graduate role, Tom was keen to gain a wide range of experience, both in the Construction Management and Building Services areas of the business, including Quantity Surveying. The Knight Harwood graduate scheme has offered these opportunities by following an 18-month structured training approach to developing skills and competencies, gaining experience across multiple areas of the business. Tom finds it particularly interesting seeing the projects develop from the procurement stage where everything is on paper to the designs developing as construction commences.

Tom has enjoyed his time on the BAFTA project immensely, learning a huge amount during the initial procurement process. During the challenging time of the first Government lockdown in March 2020, Tom was undertaking his construction management training, assisting with overseeing works on site which included the lifting of the two historic rooflight trusses and the new ground to fifth-floor stair core. He and the rest of the team are very excited about unveiling the finished project and returning the building to our prestigious client.

Outside of work you’ll most likely find Tom enjoying sport, be that watching on TV or live in a stadium as restrictions lift further. He is a keen golfer and is constantly, like many of us, trying to reduce his handicap!
