Leteesha has recently joined Knight Harwood as an assistant building services engineer and we asked her about her first impressions…

The Knight Harwood induction process

An induction like no other – it is very different compared to the regular ‘sit down in a room for a couple of hours’ approach that other companies take! It is a brilliant way for new starters to learn what Knight Harwood is about through seeing a variety of projects at different stages and meeting colleagues outside of your team. Everyone I met during the induction process was friendly and eager to answer any questions – it is obvious that they all love what they do.

Team

The teams I work with are all extremely welcoming and helpful. They each create a positive atmosphere which makes it easy to settle in and not be afraid to ask questions.

Projects

I am lucky to get to work on more than one project, between Grain House and Peloton. They are both unique and unlike anything I’ve worked on before.

New role

The transition from my previous role to my new one at Knight Harwood has been a pleasant experience because of the people around me. There are a lot of things I haven’t had the experience of dealing with, but I am excited to take on the challenge with the right support around me.

Being new to the business

Despite only being here for a couple of weeks, I have already begun to settle in. Starting at Knight Harwood was like a breath of fresh air; the whole approach to work is positive, always trying to find solutions rather than problems. It is quite difficult getting used to new processes and procedures but I’m sure it will only be a matter of time before I get the hang of it!

The company ethos

The attitude towards staff health, safety and wellbeing is second to none. Whilst we’ve been suffering from awful weather we’ve received email updates, with our welfare being the main concern – this is really refreshing. Also, the procedures and attitude towards waste management is impressive. So far, I haven’t found anything that I think could be improved!
