Meet Rob Kershaw, a project manager in Special Works who joined us in 2018.

What project are you most proud of working on and why?

Working on the new shop units at The Old Spitalfields Market was a project that stood out for me. It was really fun to work on although it could be challenging as we were creating new structures out of the ground which involved significantly noisy works in a semi-indoor and very tight site footprint: literally feet from the crowds of shoppers, market stalls and other shops. The project ran smoothly and got to the end of the twelve-month defect rectification period with zero defects noted by Foster + Partners and the client team, which was a nice way to finish it off.

What is your favourite part of your job?

The exposure to the wide variety of people that you come across in the industry and the chances you get to learn new things.

What piece of advice would you give a new starter in the industry or at Knight Harwood?

Get out there and ask a lot of questions – it is the best way to learn! Also, be confident enough to speak up when you think you should as a fresh set of eyes can provide some really insightful input into solving a problem, even if you do not believe yourself to be as experienced as the team around you.

If you could have one construction management superpower, what would it be and why?

My construction management superpower would be to have the ability to be in multiple locations at one time. I am very nosey and a bit of a control freak – which I suppose goes hand in hand with the role of a project manager in many respects – I like to know what is going on with everyone and everything! It would certainly help with keeping an eye on progress!
